From Struggles to Empowerment
Growing up, I faced many challenges, especially after my parents’ divorce. Despite being shuffled between relatives, I persevered to complete my primary and secondary classes. Just as I was preparing for university, life took an unexpected turn—I became a young mother to Chloe.
Overcoming Cultural Taboos
In our culture, pregnancy outside of marriage is taboo. With my mother also facing hardships as a single parent, I made a tough decision to leave Uganda to secure a better future. I traveled to Dubai and worked as a maid. I sacrificed, saved, and sent money home, dreaming of building a safe haven for my mom, my two sisters, and Chloe. When I returned to Uganda, I bought land and built a modest house—a small victory born from immense effort.
Building a School From Scratch
When Chloe reached school age, there were no nearby schools. My mom, a teacher, started teaching her at home. Soon, neighbors’ children joined. Witnessing her passion, I suggested we start a school to help more children. With limited resources but abundant determination, we shared our vision online, and the outpouring of support turned our dream into reality. Today, our school thrives, providing hope and education to children who would otherwise go without.
Empowering Women Through Salla’s Club
Inspired by my struggles as a young mother, I founded Salla’s Club to support other women. At Salla’s Club, we:
- Guide young mothers in parenting and self-care.
- Offer practical lessons in cooking, home care, and agriculture.
- Provide weekly counseling and a safe space to share experiences.
Caring for Our Elders
We also care for the elderly in our community, many of whom are left alone. Our team:
- Visits homes to clean, cook, and organize.
- Offers companionship and love.
- Ensures they feel valued and connected.
